Vision Conference Alum Serves Traumatized Children in Congo

Several years ago Timothy Odosa served as interpreter for a Vision Conference in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

“I can remember the DNA Conference and the experience you shared with us,” Timothy recently wrote to DNA board chair Bob Moffit. “After so many years I can still remember this very truth you shared with us about God multiplying the seed we put into His hands to feed hundreds of other people.”

Timothy reported on what has happened since that conference “to encourage you to continue the good work of God and be sure that what you planted in our hearts a long time ago is producing abundant fruits by God’s grace.”

In 2008, Timothy led a team that ministered among displaced children in Goma in the eastern part of the DRC.

Today, Timothy leads young volunteers, including “medical doctors, lawyers, and others who are all committed to serving God as we reach out to traumatized children in the DRC.”

Timothy’s job at an embassy in Kinshasa allows him to “bring my little bread or financial support towards the children’s ministry that I’m leading as a volunteer. And it’s such a great joy to see the joy that we can bring to these disfavored and traumatized children of my country.”

He describes his current ministry to these children as follows:

We are bringing God’s love to street children who have been arrested and are being detained in the central prison of Makala in Kinshasa. We tell them Bible stories every week, we bring food and clothes to them, we are doing free medical consultation for those among them who are sick, we are also pleading for their release with the help of our team of lawyers.

This work is being done so far with no financial support from other countries or organisation though we hope that soon we’ll be able to mobilise as much resources as needed to continue doing this work which is our deepest call.

We’re planning on reaching out to other street children and orphans who are taken care of by two other orphanages in Kinshasa. This work will start next month and we thank God for the joy He brings in our hearts as we keep on serving Him.

Darrow Addresses Major Pastors Conferences in Equador, Colombia

DNA co-founder Darrow Miller delivered the keynote address at a major pastor’s conference that drew Christian and Missionary Alliance leaders from throughout Central and South America. The conference took place at the El Baton Alliance church in Quito, Ecuador during the week of June 7th .

Darrow spoke on the Great Commission, drawing on material from his forthcoming book, as well as from his 2009 book, LifeWork: A Biblical Theology of What You Do Every Day.

The invitation came from, among others, Senior Pastor Luis Estevez, who read Darrow’s first book, Discipling Nations, about 10 years ago. “It totally changed my life and my church.” He has a vision to begin a city-wide study group of Alliance churches using the DNA Kingdom Lifestyle Bible study booklet series.  Pastor Estevez  is one of the key leaders of the Christian and Missionary Alliance denomination in South America, which has more than 300 member churches in Equador.

In addition to the Quito conference, Darrow traveled to Guayaquil, Ecuador where he spoke in four churches and a CMA seminary.

Darrow also spent time in Colombia, where he was invited to be a speaker at the 27th anniversary celebration of Iglesia Confraternidad Unicentro, a church in Bogota.  Darrow also addressed 400 women on content from Nurturing the Nations, and God’s maternal heart. “God really uses this material to touch people’s hearts,” said Miller.

In Colombia, Darrow visited pastor Hector Pardo, a key leader of the Evangelical Alliance of Colombia. Pardo is pastor of Iglesia Tabernaculo de la Fe, and is a respected churchman who mentors many young pastors. He has read many of the Disciple Nations Alliance books and materials and found them helpful. He is exploring a nation-wide pastor’s conference in 2011 featuring DNA speakers.
